Episode synopsis

As Season 2 nears its conclusion, we document the UX design phase of this project, led by Director of Design Ryan Davis. Watch as the team transforms technical requirements and research insights into a prototype for both doctor and patient experiences.

With a focus on reducing the patient's burden of recall, continued support through AI-powered assistance, and accommodating information-sharing between care providers, the prototype serves two personas with distinct features:

Physician Experience Highlights:

  • Dashboard displaying previous patient conversations
  • Current medication tracking
  • Recording and transcription capabilities
  • AI-powered conversation summary and organization tools
  • Ability to review and approve patient-facing content

Patient Experience Highlights:

  • Access to doctor-approved transcripts and summaries
  • Conversational AI chat interface for post-discharge questions
  • Integration with doctor-approved medical resources
  • Personalized responses based on actual medical history and ER visit records
  • Ability to share information with caregivers and family members

A crucial part of prototyping is rapid iterative design, based on critique sessions with various stakeholders and user testing. When Senior Product Researcher Kristen Duke gathers new insights, this user feedback reveals important considerations that the design team incorporates into a final product.

The episode concludes with the team preparing to present their refined prototype to industry experts at the University of Virginia, where they’ll receive feedback for real-world implementation.
