The Verge targets an affluent, tech-savvy and mobile target audience. They needed sophisticated apps that exceeded the demands of their tech-hungry readers, mostly men ages 25 to 40 who care as much about how they get their news as the news itself. High expectations of The Verge readers included social sharing and a brand-worthy, media-rich experience. The Verge also needed to ensure cross-platform continuity by leveraging the internal API’s of parent company, VOX Media.
