The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) retained WillowTree Apps to assist in the design and development of the Pocket Cancer Guide App for iPhone.   WillowTree put its extensive background in medical mobile app development to use to launch an app that will significantly improve the way cancer patients interact with their professional health caregivers.

Patients and their loved ones have a notoriously difficult experience managing their limited time with doctors and other healthcare professionals.   Patients are often highly stressed, and may not have full use of their cognitive abilities because of the effects of the disease and medications.

The Pocket Cancer Guide app permits patients to create a “game plan” for their meeting with a doctor or other healthcare professional by helping them develop a complete lists of questions and concerns they would like to have addressed.   Cancer patients can pick from a selection of hundreds of pre-selected questions, or can create their own.   As the patient or loved one interacts with the doctor/health care professional, he or she can use the app to record the conversation or make notes.

In addition, the app assists the patient by providing a glossary of cancer-related terms and integration into the iPhone calendar to permit management of appointments and medications.
